And now, for the full story:
In the Beginning, There Was the Hammock
My hammock journey began around 2011. I was touring Sweden with my fire show, staying at friends’ homes or hotels. I’d long been intrigued by sleeping outdoors – perhaps a hammock with a mosquito net would work? When I discovered the Hennessy Hammock, everything changed. Soon, I was sleeping in the forest more than 100 nights a year. I was hooked, contacted the manufacturers, and began offering hammocks to my friends nearly at cost – simply because I wanted everyone to experience that freedom and tranquility.
Tour life became much easier. The hammock replaced hotels, sofas, and even my own bed. I took it everywhere: hikes in the Himalayas, the Nordic forests, and all around Europe.
The Birth of the Momo Jord Hammock
Fifteen years later, it was time to create my own line of hammocks – crafted from the insights, experiences, and passion collected during thousands of nights spent outdoors. I’m deeply grateful and humbled by how well the product line has been received, and I’m excited to keep refining and developing it further.
But Why “Momo Jord”?
The name “Momo Jord” is a playful yet heartfelt tribute to Mother Earth – and something even older, deeper, and mythical. It carries echoes of Jörd, the primal Nordic goddess, mother to Odin Allfather – a wanderer embodying wisdom, courage, and the pursuit of deeper understanding, born directly from the earth.
That’s precisely the feeling hammock life evokes: resting deeply in the embrace of the primal mother. Listen closely, and you can hear wisdom whispering through moss, wind, and the rustling pines. A timeless and eternal whisper.
The simpler (and perhaps truer) story: After a Vipassana retreat in 2008, I needed a platform to share thoughts and insights about life. The domain momo.se was taken, so I chose momojord.se because I needed to ground myself after ten days of meditation. A few years later, I discovered hammock life – the rest is history.
Life Today
Nowadays, I live in the deep forests of Hälsingland in an old 19th-century schoolhouse we’re renovating. Days are filled with hikes alongside my wife and dog, as well as countless other exciting projects to explore and enjoy.
This also means I’m not always online or quick with emails. I cherish the luxury of being present in the moment. Emails are answered a few times a week (usually Mondays and occasionally towards the weekend), and packages ship 2-3 times per week – unless I’m out on a longer adventure. If the shop is closed for a few days, I’ll clearly notify you.
My phone remains switched off at the office and has been so for months – simply because I deeply value the present moment and find interruptions, like phone calls, disruptive. Email is the best and quickest way to reach me!
You can contact me at [email protected]. I always do my best to respond to everyone, though sometimes it might take a bit.
Le’ts hang out
Now it’s time to step away from the screen and get back out there.
Thank you for being here and for reading all the way through. See you among the trees.
Warm regards, Leon
